Thermometers hung on walls in homes or offices give the room temperature. However, strictly measuring the outside temperature helps in weather forecasting.

Newspapers and TV news report the Maximum and Minimum temperatures of the day.
- These vary day by day.
- Usually, it is hotter in summer and colder in winter.

Anna Mani (1918–2001) Known as the “Weather Woman of India,” she invented and built many weather measurement instruments, reducing India’s reliance on foreign imports. She also researched wind and solar energy.
Maximum-Minimum Thermometer
Meteorologists use a special thermometer called the Maximum-Minimum Thermometer to record the highest and lowest temperatures reached during a day automatically.
